Orthopedic Biomaterials in Research and Practice

A biomaterial is a substance that has been created to take on a shape that can be employed either alone or as a component of a complex system. The biomaterials in orthopedics have progressed from temporary bone-fixing implants to durable implant materials and bioabsorbable implants. They are typically used in one of three surgical specialty categories, which include upper extremity, lower extremity or spine. Furthermore, each of these specialties is subdivided into three main categories, namely, reconstruction, pediatric and trauma.
