Wolverhampton Wanderers FC was founded in 1877 as St Luke's Football Club, and became one of the founding members of the Football League. The early years were dramatic and often turbulent, and the fledgling club nearly foundered on more than one occasion, but thanks to the efforts of the founders and supporters, it came through and survived.
