Old Catholic Maryland and Its Early Jesuit Missionaries

How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace; of them that bring glad tidings of good things. As we read of whole villages and entire tribes being cleansed in the sacred waters of Baptism, our hearts swell with unbounded gratitude towards the Author of all graces and mercies. Even Protestant writers glow with the fire of admiration as they depict the planting of the Standard of the Cross on the banks of our rivers and along the shores of our great lakes. What picture, indeed, can be more touching, or more inspiring than that of our early missionaries carving the fair Sign of redemption - on the tall forest trees; of our black-robed chiefs preaching beside their rustic altars to red groups of savage warriors?
