Notions of the Americans

Notions of the Americans, in its mixture of description of places and events with political analysis, is essentially a travel book; but Cooper, perhaps due to the rarity of such books about the author's own country at the time, or perhaps to claim greater objectivity, published it under the framing fiction of being written by a European nobleman visiting the United States.
