From a stronghold in the North, the nightwatch guards its homeland, weighs longheld wisdom, and speaks with us, at once laying down a broad understanding of the times, then setting off on rounds over the centuries through hallways, bulwarks, lanes and woodlands. Striding through ghostly night into dewy morning, the nightwatch asks what is homecoming, where do the borders go, what is the way?

Stark, metaphorical and dreamlike, Nightwatch is the English translucence of the Swedish work Nattväktare on aesthetics, morality, ontology, theology and Western history. Through what it says we become aware of what cannot be said. Nightwatch casts light in dark times and strengthens its readers.
