New Perspectives on Hazing

Academic hazing is a defining event in the life of the student entering higher education. Research has documented different attitudes of students towards hazing. Some avoid it at all costs, because they perceive it as an abuse of power, revealing mistreatment and a pernicious effect. Others adhere to it, more or less with conviction, seeing it as a game, a source of entertainment and a way to foster new friendships. Research has also begun to pay attention to praxe solidarity, that is, actions and movements that seek to value a solidarity and citizenship dimension in praxe.These are some of the aspects discussed in this book, based on the views of researchers and higher education students in Portugal and Brazil.
