New Hearing of an Old Prayer

Author Thomas Short makes the point that prayer is the coming together of two who belong together. Since prayer is the union of the created and the creator, the result of prayer is not reward but relationship. Prayer is communion. It is one of the ways we have of moving toward God for whom we thirst. He notes that Jesus taught us not to be too wordy with our prayer time when he said that heathens thought "they would be heard for their many words." Consequently, Short says, the same man who taught us not to be woo wordy gave us the words for a prayer -- the Lord's Prayer.
