Nella Larsen (1891-1964) was an author of mixed race who wrote from the 1920s through 1930. She is considered part of the Harlem Renaissance, even though she was raised by her White mother and White stepfather. Issues of race and identity permeate her fiction.Her small literary output just two novels and three short stories achieved critical acclaim in its day, though commercial success escaped her.
