Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. IT is often quite as difficult to find an appropriate title as to write a book. It is not tactics, nor strategy, nor a systematic course of military instruction that is the subject of the following pages; and now that they lie in a complete form before me, I am really in doubt as to What to call them. A name must be found to denote their contents, and one Which, at the same time, does not promise more than it can perform.
