Mythological Migrations: Imagining Queer Muslim Utopias

This book is a multidisciplinary doctoral project that explores queer identity, resistance, and community in Muslim migratory contexts through contemporary art. Against the backdrop of rising Islamophobia, racism, anti-immigrant sentiments, homophobia, and transphobia in the west over the past twenty-five years, the research draws on transnational feminist and queer intersectional scholarship to consider specific artistic and curatorial practices, offering critical reflections on queer, Muslim, racialized, and migratory discourses. Abdullah Qureshi is a Pakistani-born multidisciplinary artist, curator, and educator. Working across painting, filmmaking, and immersive events, his practice and research explore the intersections of gender, sexuality, race, and migration from queer, Muslim, and South Asian perspectives.
