My thieving uncles

Faisal Abdul Hassan is an Iraqi short story writer and novelist with a keen eye for insight. His obsession and preoccupation is expressing the tragedy of the Iraqi people through the concerns of ordinary people. His works draw from a memory spanning more than half a century, so that in his writings you inhale the scents of war, death, and poverty, and the tragedy of this people, with all their suffering and laughter, is depicted before your eyes.Abdul Hassan possesses a language that is simple and devoid of meaning, in addition to his ability to joke between the language of the simple and the language of the educated.Al Hassan has written several novels, including "Night and Day," "Foreign Iraqis," and "The Far South," which won the 1989 Iraqi Novel Award.
