Bec and Johnny meet just before their kindergarten year in a small town in southwestern New Mexico. Her family moves to the area to take care of her grandma, Nana, but they soon begin to foster children as well. One foster child, Donovan, joins Bec and Johnny for epic adventures as he learns to face and overcome his fears. Over the years, Johnny wonders if there could possibly be more than just friendship with Bec. Now, he wonders if he will ever be able to live again.
