Modern HIV Research and Therapy

HIV is now one of the most thoroughly researched infectious diseases in medicine - and yet it remains one of its greatest challenges. Within a few decades, the diagnosis has changed from a near-certain death sentence to a chronically treatable disease. This book traces this development and shows why the story of HIV is by no means over. The focus is on modern therapies, immune and gene therapies, genome editing, strategies for controlling viral reservoirs, and realistic prospects for functional cures. At the same time, the work highlights the social, ethical, and global dimensions of medical progress: stigmatization, aging with HIV, legal issues, and global inequality.
