Originally published in 1935, this book was formed from the Thirlwall and Gladstone Prize Essay for 1933. The text presents a study of the relationship between Methodism and politics from 1791 to 1851, the 60 year period following John Wesley's death. This was a time of great change both in terms of British history and the development of Methodism. A bibliography is included and notes are incorporated throughout.
