Mara had lost her comb. Mermaids never lose their combs because this would spell disaster. She must find it again no matter what it takes. She enlisted the support of Mrs Dugong whom she thought would help her find it. But after listening to her adventures she felt her only hope rested on her seeking to retrieve it herself.
