Maslow Debunked is the third book written by Ron Emery. The idea started at an outside caf in Zurich, Switzerland with a good friend when we started to discuss self-actualization and just what it meant to him. I weighed in and asked him who might he pick as being self-actualized and he responded, "why, you of course." I thought to myself, well, I don't feel very special to be considered self-actualized. After sleeping on it I thought what was it my friend was seeing and could he be mistaken as to what he was perceiving? The more thought I put into it, I wondered was he perceiving self-actualization for fulfillment? Just what is a person who is self-actualized as compared to one who is fulfilled? So I started to research Maslow...Maslow as most of you know was a dysfunctional psychologist who was embraced by the management community who developed the theory of self-actualization. My theory throughout the book, once we understand who Maslow was and why he thought the way he did was to say, "Is self-actualization really what we strive to become?" Or is it something else? My belief, had Maslow really flushed out his theories and really considered all of the variables, he might have come up with fulfillment as being the modern day driver of the self-actualized person. We explore exactly why Maslow stopped at his self-actualization theory and how he really should have incorporated fulfillment as the ultimate model rather than the path he went down...
