Marcel Baudrou and Lucie Quesnel

In late August 1944, a French couple residing in St. Brieuc, Brittany, were reported by local residents for occupying a house requisitioned by the Germans. Marcel Baudrou informed a local resistance leader that he possessed a wireless set belonging to the Germans and was willing to allow the Allies to use him to transmit false messages. Following questioning by French police, American, and British intelligence officers, it was determined that Baudrou and Lucie Quesnel, his companion, would be escorted to London for further interrogation. Bernard O'Connor's latest documentary history explores the narratives provided by Baudrou and Quesnel at Latchmere House on Ham Common, west London. Known as Camp 020, this facility was where suspected enemy personnel underwent extensive questioning over several weeks. Interrogation reports from this period have been preserved and stored in the National Archives in Kew. This book recounts their story and provides insight into the daily operations of the counter-intelligence service, which was keen to gather comprehensive information about the German Intelligence Service. Topics covered include its personnel, agent recruitment, training schools, instructors, syllabi, equipment, codes and ciphers, financial allowances, living arrangements, and other agents potentially active in stay-behind networks in various parts of France.
