Mamluks

"The Muslim military system received some attention from Western historians, both Orientalists and non-Orientalists. The Ottoman Empire, as well as the Mamluk state, received a share of this attention, without Mamluk chivalry receiving its share of study, knowing that it is the focus of the entire Mamluk system. This research is nothing but an attempt to form a clear picture of the foundations on which the Mamluk equestrian system was based and the changes and modifications that occurred to it during the era of the Mamluk Sultans (0521 AD - 7151 AD). This research examined the historical conditions in the Middle East in the twelfth century AD, explained the elements that made up the Mamluk army, and described the life of a Mamluk from the time his merchant brought him to Egypt until he was liberated after he finished his studies in Tabak and became a knight. In addition to that is what was stated in this research about the factors that controlled the knight''s future, his resources, and the relationships that linked him to his teacher and colleagues in slavery, emancipation, education, and service, and the importance of all of that in the strength and weakness of the equestrian system."
