Limestone Legacies is a collection of articles and photos on the local history of the town of Granbury and the surrounding Hood County in north central Texas from the 1840s to the present day. The local story has been greatly influenced by the Brazos River, or as the Spanish explorers named it- El Rio de los Brazos de Dios- the River of the Arms of God. The various articles profile the people, places, and events that have highlighted the last 160 years in the area, with sections focusing on The Founders, Glimpses of the Past, Legends and Lore (including John Wilkes Booth and Jesse James!), Historic Preservation, and Following the Trails of History, with an end section outlining local resources for genealogy and family research. Most of the articles feature photos of the actual people, places and/or events, and focus on the years from 1850-1925 and from 1970 to current historical preservation work. This book should become a go-to source for accessible information and photos of some of the prominent early citizens and also provides interesting insights into the differences between the world of 150 years ago and our current early twenty-first lives.
