And our Mother Earth,<br>Rocking the twain in the deep rise and fall<br>Of her green bosom, sang proud litanies,<br>Promised them beauty, conquest, empire, brain and heart.<br>And woman''s faith, and towering pride of race.<br>Too great to rule together, worlds apart<br>She set them, in the silver of the seas.<br>Yet heart calls heart, as erst upon the breast<br>That bore these glories, sovereign in their place,<br>The Island Empires of the East and West.
