Outi Tarkiainen's solo violin work Kunnes kivi halkeaa (Until the Stone Splits) is a modern threnody. It is a musical portrait inspired by Finnish poet Sirkka Turkka's poem Kipu ei kasva mitään (Nothing Grows on the Sorrow), from the anthology Vaikka on kesä (Though It's Summer, 1983). In the poem, the narrator mourns her longing for her deceased mother. The piece is dedicated to the violinist Saana Uksila.
