Katrina Reflections

In September 2005, Los Angeles-based photographer Michael Lohr embarked on a 3-week independent goodwill mission to help rescue pets left behind in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. KatrinaReflections is a collection of photographs and first-hand experiences that took place during the weeks immediately following the storm. The images, along with accounts of heartfelt loss and unwavering humanity, paint a surprisingly poignant portrait of New Orleans during that tragic time. These photos have rarely been seen. The stories, untold...until now. With a proclivity for landscape photography, Michael's portraits of Katrina's destruction are a dichotomous blend of beauty and devastation. And the stories-more than 30 inspiring vignettes of a day in the life of animal rescue in a disaster zone-carry the reader through events that few have experienced or ever will. The stories are told from Michael's perspective written by him and his wife Jenn.
