When one affirms a relationship with God, participates in a religious congregation and its mission, does that mean she or he becomes saddled with burdensome, ideological dogma and rule-keeping ethics? To be religious must one surrender mind and spirit to such confinement?

On the other hand, does God call us to freedom from such limited existence? If so, how does one navigate in a world of spiritual freedom without becoming lost in a formless spirituality? And, does such a call to freedom demand a rejection of institutional religion and biblical/theological Tradition?

Here, the author shares his own journey from a burdensome and limiting religion toward the freedom to which he feels God is calling all of us, spiritual freedom to which Jesus gives the name "abundant life."
