This is not just another vampire story, it is based on the recently discovered Journal 97 which contains the case notes of the wildly eccentric, master detective, Edmund Robert Satz. The author of this book has often been asked, could such a fastidious sleuth like E.R.Satz actually exist. Not until Journal 97 came into his possession could he respond to that question with a resounding yes! In the late 1800s, E.R.Satz, as he preferred being called, uncovered information that he believed would change what was accepted as historical fact. In Journal 97, he compiled information he gleaned from old texts, town records, and interviews with people who knew stories handed down by word of mouth. The journal is also intermixed with a combination of notes about experiments E.R.Satz conducted along with his feelings about certain aspects of his own life. These personal writings give us a unique insight into who he was, and can possibly settle some of the numerous debates surrounding his odd philosophy. The results of his extensive investigative work became known as the case of Vladoff and Yuri, and has been reorganized by the author. Instead of presenting the dry facts alone, he thought it would be better told as a story that begins in Wallachia, the birthplace of the vampire legends in the year 1380. After a brutal vampire attack, Vladoff, a young aristocrat is the only member of his family to be spared. As their prisoner, he is forced to travel south with the marauding band on a killing spree that lasts almost a year. Yuri lives in a town that does not hold any opportunities for such an industrious young man as himself. Along with being physically miserable, he feels mentally stuck and deeply repressed. Hating where he lives, Yuri decides to run away from the only place he has ever known, and heads north to go beyond the reach of a tyrant’s control. This unlikely pair are thrown together by their individual circumstances and over time new lives for themselves. Through a series of unplanned events they are taken on a journey which unveils their emotional depth, and dedication to their unique friendship. Over time Vladoff and Yuri are joined by a small group of people looking to change the lives they were forced to endure. Working together in secret, their lives take on a pleasant rhythm and they are each able to find happiness. Just when everything seems perfect, the group is suddenly threatened and they must flee in order to survive. Whether it is fact, fiction, or the ramblings of a diluted mind, E.R.Satz’s strange way of thinking causes these heart felt, warm characters to swim in an ever changing undercurrent of subtle humor. In the end, the historical truth is revealed and they find their rightful place in the world.
