Joint forcible entry operations seize and holdlodgments against armed opposition. A lodgmentis a designated area in a hostile or potentiallyhostile operational area that, when seized andheld, makes the continuous landing of troops andmateriel possible and provides maneuver spacefor subsequent operations (a lodgment may be anairhead, a beachhead, or a combination thereof).Forcible entry demands careful planning andthorough preparation; synchronized, violent, andrapid execution; and leader initiative at everylevel to deal with friction, chance, andopportunity.
