S. Diwakar has published a wide range of short stories, essays, translations, and literary criticism, and has also worked as a reporter and editor. K. Nallathambi has selected and translated a collection of his short stories from Kannada to Tamil. Diwakar's stories are well known for their dreaminess; he was a pioneer of this style from the seventies.
