Illustrerad katalog över äldre måleri från Danmark, Finland och Norge
En ny huvudkatalog över Nationalmuseums samlingar av äldre utländskt måleri utgavs 1990 och ersatte den tidigare katalogen från 1958. Museet fortsätter nu nyutgivningen med två kataloger som presenterar det äldre svenska och övriga nordiska måleriet. Dessa ersätter den tidigare katalogen från 1952. Till skillnad från denna är de, liksom den tidigare utländska, fullständigt illustrerade med ca 3199 respektive 400 svart-vita bilder för att göra samlingarna mer lättillgängliga för såväl en bred allmänhet som en konstvetenskapligt inriktad publik.
Samlingen av äldre svenskt måleri, som omfattar verk från 1500-talet framtill och med 1800-talet är av naturliga skäl den största existerande och utmärks av såväl en stor bredd som hög konstnärlig kvalitet. Självklara höjdpunkter är 1700-talet med bland annat Pilo och Roslin och 1800-talets slutskede med Hill, Josephson och Strindberg och " de tre stora", Carl Larsson, Liljefors och Zorn. KOnsten från övriga Norden, Danmark, Finland och Norge inbegriper b´l.a. Eckersberg, Ring, Edelfelt och Dahl.
A new main catalogue of nationalmuseum's collections of European paintings was published in 1990, suspending the previous, 1958 edition. Continuing the process of renewal, the Museum is now publishing two catalogues of its Swedish paintings and paintings from Denmark, Finland and Norway. These replace the earlier catalogue from 1952. Unlike the latter, and in common with the catalogue of European paintings already published, the new catalogues are illustrated throughout, containing, respectively, 3.100 and approximately 400 black-and-white photographs to make the Museum's collections more readily available to the general public and a more specialised readership.
The collection of earlier Swedish paintings, coprising works from the 16th to the 19th century inclusive, is, understandably, the largest of its kind, and is distinguished by its breadth of scope and its high artistic quality. Obvius highlights include the 18th century, with artists like Pilo and Roslin, and, from the closing years of the 19th century, Hill, Josephson and Strindberg, together with "the big three" - Carl Larssom, Liljefors and Zorn
