Hungarian Revival

Since the fall of " the wall" in 1989 enormous changes have been taking place in Central Europe plitical, national, cultural and geographic patterns that shaped th region up to World War I are beginning to re-emerge. The revival of Hungarian cultural identity is one such phenomenon. Moreover, as neighboring countries assert their own cultural identities, many Hungarian minority communitties in these countries have experienced discrimination and repression. Dr. Maracz discusses these pertinent contemporary issues regarding Hungarians within the context of Hungary's recent history (e.g., the 1956 uprising against Soviet oppression) and the history Of Hungarian minorities in other countries (e.g., their support for the revolution against the Romanian dictator Ceausescu in 1989).
