The people of Ad Elwan often laugh at their country's name. Known for elephants? It is a vast land of opposites, nearly entirely desert and yet ample in its delicious foods, and even more diverse are its (often talking or bartering) animals. Elephants are but one of those marvelous things. Attuz loved her home, a village tucked in the Moctar Basin, until it was destroyed in the war posed against its colonizing powers. Now, alongside two strange penguins and her childhood viper friend, she learns more about life than she ever would have bargained for.
