Helene Schjerfbeck (englanninkielinen)
The Ateneum Art Museum and the Finnish National Gallery have the world's largest Schjerfbeck collection, including more than 200 works along with a wealth of other material.
The Artists of Ateneum series sheds new light on the classics of Finnish art. The history of nineteenth-century Finnish art includes emotionally stirring landscapes, powerful national depictions, historical paintings and portraits. Depictions of the national epic, the Kalevala, also play a strong role. Around the turn of the twentieth century, the focus shifted to Paris and new forms of expression. Art recognised no geographic borders. The passing decades and new isms brought new streams and views into art, from modernism to political and Pop art. This series presents the creators behind the story, one at a time. Chief Editor of the Series is Susanna Pettersson, Museum Director at Ateneum Art Museum.
