Harry Woodburn Chase

Harry Woodburn Chase (1883-1955) served as president or chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of Illinois, and New York University from 1919 to 1951. His significant career, as an outstanding American university statesman for thirty-two years, is sketched and happily appraised against the educational challenges of this period.
