Nanotechnology is a relatively new field of science that is finding its way with enormous scope in both medical and dental science. Its provides the need of understanding and achieving cell specific functions. Materials used in Nanotechnology are termed as nano biomaterials which can occur naturally, are created as the by-products of combustion reactions, or be produced purposefully through engineering to perform a specialised function. Regeneration of periodontal tissues, so that their original form, architecture and function are restored, has been an elusive but laudable goal but it can be achieved by the use of Nano biotechnology or Periodontal tissue engineering. The conducive environment used in this concept requires the presence of cells, scaffold, and signalling molecules. There are various uses of Nanotechnology in terms of dentistry especially in terms of pulpodentinal complex, regeneration of periodontal regeneration and implants in terms of periodontics per se. Hence with the concept of Nano biotechnology and science of biomaterials a new intervention has come into picture in the field of dentistry and in the world in general.
