This is a mystery novel written by the exotically named English author William le Queux. He had an English mother and a French father. The story has an intriguing opening in which the author suggests that the reader will learn a real secret that is true. The first chapter describes the death of a strange man, watched by an equally strange doctor in a shabby room in Paris.
