The text, written to commemorate the centenary of the US Declaration of Independence, makes the hymn particularly suitable for 4 July, but it would work equally well for other celebratory occasions. Wilberg has retained some of George Warren's original harmonies, while also adding his own distinctive stamp. The orchestral version has been recorded by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square on the CD Spirit of America (SKU 4600686).
