Freedoms

for SS and piano This work, composed by Bob Chilcott and setting words by Charles Bennett, explores human freedom through our relationship with the natural world. The first movement, 'The Freedom of the Earth', encourages everyone to take action to free the environment from the snares of pollution. Its lively and catchy melody is contrasted with the melancholic, offbeat tune of the second movement, 'The Freedom of the Leaf', which cherishes the joy found in even the simplest and briefest moments of freedom. A faster and more confident melody returns in the final movement, 'The Freedom of the Island', which celebrates the liberating effect of accepting ourselves just as we are.
