Forest resources dynamics and carbon sink potential in Nigeria

Nigeria's forests are crucial for climate change mitigation, but are threatened by deforestation and degradation. This book evaluates forest resources and carbon sink potential, focusing on REDD+ implementation. It analyzes forest cover changes from 2003-2035 and carbon storage under REDD+ policy and non-policy scenarios. The study shows REDD+ policies can significantly increase carbon storage and sequestration, generating revenue and jobs while promoting sustainable forest management. Mitigation strategies include sustainable forest management, reforestation, and afforestation. The REDD+ policy is beneficial and cost-effective for Nigeria, offering opportunities for forest conservation and livelihood improvement.
