Under the watchful eyes of her instructors, she and her cadet crew must pilot a space frigate across the galaxy, touch down on a remote alien world and return safely.

When Cassi disobeys orders and investigates a distress call, she leads her crew into a trap, and a disaster of a crash on the surface of an uninhabited world.

With the only qualified astronauts locked in survival stasis, Cassi is promoted into her first command-rank, authority, and responsibility.

Pursued by bloodthirsty pirates, with rescue light years away and stranded on a world where even the ground is hostile, Cassi must rally her crew, confront an alien presence and lead her crew home.
