Faith, Food, Francis A Walk To Rome

If you take the 12:33 out of Florence's Santa Novella station you arrive in Rome by 2 PM, in time for an Italian lunch. Instead, Roy Nirschel and Carol Thompson walked, spending over three weeks on foot. Starting at the monastery of La Verna, with its roots in St. Francis, they spend each day walking, exploring valleys, olive groves, rural cow paths and country roads en route to Assisi (as in St. Francis of) and on to Rome. Along the way they discover Tuscany, Umbria, and Lazio in ways few others have. Romans, Greeks, Etruscans precede them.
