London, 1654: Jonah Hemp stands on stage in a tavern promising a spectacular performance. The audience is overwhelmed by what they see: slaves performing an African tribal dance, the stuffed corpse of a pirate, grotesque zombies. Among the audience, however, there are also men who aren’t here to be entertained. One is looking for the golden wig. Another is on the hunt for people he can sell.

A Midsummer Night's Nightmare is the follow-up to Paradise Lost. In the previous book we met Jonah and Medeia in completely different surroundings, at a tobacco farm in the Caribbean. Now they find themselves in a great European city and have abandoned their past lives as slave-owner's son and slave. But are they really free? Can they start again, and do new acquaintances wish them well?
