In the winter of 2004, Paul Bacon moved to Mongolia to work as a volunteer journalist at the country's only independent English-language newspaper. Escaping the Ice-Prison details the four months he spent in the Land of the Blue Skies. It discusses Mongolian history, the lingering impact of Communism and some of the major social issues that grip the country.Escaping the Ice-Prison sees Paul report on government corruption, crippling alcoholism and street children in Ulaan Baatar. He also enjoys a night on the tiles with a Mongolian rock legend, plays football in a national tournament and has vodka-fuelled fun for Mongolia's Tsagaan Sar festival. Along with all this, Paul explores the magnificent scenery in one of the world's last unexplored expanses of wilderness.
