Author covers his high school days in Davenport, Iowa; his education at Notre Dame and the London School of Economics; working on Hughes' campaign for the Senate in 1968 and his time in D.C.; his legislative accomplishments during his 24-year tenure in the Iowa Senate; and how 19th century Iowa became 20th century Iowa.
