Elizabeth'S Journey

Fifteen-year-old Elizabeth and her brother, Jacob, set out for the city to find work to help financially support their family after the crop failures of 1846 and 1847. As the shy, dutiful daughter, Elizabeth sees this as an ideal opportunity to become self-sufficient and to escape, with a bit of luck, the arranged marriage her father has planned for her.
