Stephen Fishman has kept the techno-babble to a minimum while retaining all that is important concerning Electronics Aboard. How a device works may not be necessary to your understanding of its use, but some things are simply interesting to learn. Stephen won't bore you with the details of how a microprocessor works or the theories of resistivity, but taking a moment to learn about sine waves and radio frequencies will be worth your time.

Unlike many other electronics books, you will not be intimidated by the information you read in this book. It is written in a concise, easy to understand style.

If you are the equivalent of a marine propeller head, run – do not walk – to the shelf where you found this book and put it back. You won't like it. But if you want plain-talk about truly useful equipment that can enrich your boating experience, you have definitely picked the right book.

Author Biography: Stephen Fishman has been sailing for the better part of the last quarter century. Through this experience, he has become a well-known writer and speaker. Stephen was a successful yacht broker and, for many years, owned a full-service yacht repair and maintenance company that serviced pleasure boats in Clear Lake, Texas.

In 1994, Stephen began writing and illustrating a monthly repair column for Telltales Magazine, a Texas coastal sailing publication. Within a few years, he established monthly columns in Gulf Coast Moorings, Southwinds and Dockside Magazine. Along with his monthly columns, his articles have also been published in Yachting Magazine, Southern Boating, Chesapeake Bay Magazine, Motorboating and many others.

Stephen has also accepted larger assignments, such as the user manual for The Cap'n, a software navigation program used by pleasure boaters as well as the U.S. military.

In 1999 many of his projects were collected in a book titled Boat Improvements for the Practical Sailor, published by Sheridan House.

He is a certified instructor for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Boater's Safety Course, a scuba diving teaching assistant and certified Divemaster. He splits his spare time between sailing on Galveston Bay, riding his motorcycle and playing percussion with a variety of local bands.

Stephen and his wife, Deborah, have lived aboard Lady Greyhawke, their Catalina 320, on the upper Galveston Bay for six years.
