Eero Järnefelt

40,00 €

Eero Järnefelt (18631937) is one of Finland's most renowned artists, perhaps best remembered for his landscapes from Koli in eastern Finland and his painting Under the Yoke (Burning the Brushwood). Järnefelt's art springs from his family's fascinating cultural background. His work is marked by a desire to promote cultural knowledge, while portraying the typical features of the people and nature of Finland. This exhibition catalogue, which is published as a companion to the artist's monographic exhibition at the Ateneum Art Museum, reveals new information and research about Järnefelt's family, travels and home life at Suviranta, his villa on Lake Tuusula.

The book's rich illustrations present Järnefelt as an artist who portrayed his subjects with detailed precision, sensitive atmospheres and even a solemn monumentality. The book's author is exhibition curator Timo Huusko, and it includes additional contributions by Anna-Maria von Bonsdorff, Julia Donner, Teemu Keskisarja, Minna Maijala, Tutta Palin and Hanne Selkokari.
