In 1348 Vebbia Carfax, accused of witchcraft, faced the terrifying ordeal of judgement by fire. Nearly eight hundred years later her descendant, 14-year-old Lily Carfax, moves from London to the ancient Carfax Hall. There she meets a mysterious stranger with no reflection who can move at supernatural speed.
