Ji Shengzi was an expert in training gamecocks during the Spring and Autumn period. He was asked by the King of Qi to train his cocks. After many days, the King of Qi grew impatient, but Ji Shengzi shook his head, indicating that the cocks were not yet ready. Ji Shengzi aimed to train the cocks to be composed and calm, unmoving and silent like wooden sculptures. The King of Qi entered the competition with these composed cocks, winning every time.
