Down in Monterey (The Summer of Love) is the tale of a raucous rock 'n roll road trip, set in 1967's Summer of Love. After running away from home, the story's narrator, Wyatt Hiatt, happens upon the free-spirited Lusty Dusty, who convinces him to hitchhike down the California coastline to partake in the history-making Monterey Pop Festival. On their psychedelic journey, Wyatt and Dusty hitch a ride with the gonzo Bobby and Griff, get rescued by Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones and frolic with the star of the Pop Festival, Janis Joplin. Miraculously, they all survive each other's antics.
