Do Not Ignore Me

Do Not Ignore Me is a bone- chilling narration that takes as its protagonist a gruesome psychopath who, in grappling with his own sense of mediocrity, predominantly targets women whom he tortures and kills. The first person narrator never tells us his name, but we can identify him immediately as a despicable being whose primary goal in life is to not be ignored. What's unique about this narration is the collaboration that this psychopath develops with his girlfriend. She, in a kind of "Stockholm syndrome" frenzy, mimics the protagonist in his insanity and starts helping him capture his victims, while concurrently the two of them plan for a family in the immediate future. The narrative voice is merciless with the reader, since it shirks from no details and goes deeper and deeper into the psyche of the killer, while denouncing all the vices of modern day Chile: xenophobia, homophobia, class differences, rejection of minorities, to name a few. With this novel Nicol s Poblete has consolidated his position as one of the most interesting and original writers of his generation.
