Disconnected

It hadn't been a shock; in fact, it had been something she had been waiting for. So when the power went out, and the generators didn't come on, Doctor Julie Walters knew. Her stepfather had raised all the kids to be prepared for just such an event. For years, every time the lights flickered, she had expected an EMP. Now it had happened. It had taken her seconds to decide to steal all the medical supplies she could carry, and hope she could make the trip by bicycle. Sandbar was over forty miles north of Seattle and then east up into the Cascade Mountains, and it would be a tough trip. Meanwhile, Julie's brother, Ron Crain, was bobbing on a boat in San Francisco Bay, chatting with his friend Craig, when everything stopped. He, too, had known life had changed forever. Larry, the third person in their fishing party, had a family to get home to. Instantly, he started doing what he needed to take this old cabin cruiser up the coast to his home in Everett, Washington. Ron knew how, despite the danger, it was his best chance to get home, maybe his only chance. Craig, with all of his family on the east coast, had no choice but to tagged along.
