Democratic Republic of Congo

Insecurity, poor governance, and a long-running humanitarian crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) present a range of challenges for U.S. policymakers, including the U.S. Congress. Chronic instability in eastern DRC, an area rich in minerals and other natural resources, has caused widespread human suffering and inhibited private sector investment throughout the Great Lakes region -- which includes DRC and its neighbors to the east. This book discusses the background and United States policy of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and provides insight on the DRC's conditions and issues.
